Abstract: This article reflects on the importance of Quentin Skinner's method for historical-educational research. This work explores some of its key concepts: ideas as “tools” used for persuasive argumentation, the heuristic inconsistency of the concept of influence, the unity-idea understood as an umbrella category that involves abstractions, the concept of context and the technique of intertextuality. Through a review of studies that have welcomed Skinner’s methodology, the article also highlights how, both in the European and American contexts, there is a growing interest in educational research towards his investigative strategy. The analysis then focuses on two case studies on the concept of unity-idea: one on the idea of progressivism, widespread in the British tradition, and one on the idea of Christianity, developed in Italian personalist pedagogy. These two terms are similar “tools” in standardizing the complex educational reality, bringing different meanings and attitudes closer together. Skinner's analytical approach warns against this operation, because the use of general concepts, sometimes useful and necessary, can become an obstacle to the understanding of authentic meanings. Excessive trust in universal principles without a reflection that enters into historical complexity can lead to an ethical intellectualism for which a good theory is sufficient to change and improve practices. The valorization of historically solid meanings is a guarantee for an authentically transformative educational theory and practice.

Abstract: Plagiarism is a grave concern among academicians and researchers in higher education. Due to this issue, many academicians and researchers have faced unwanted penalties. In Bangladesh, newspapers publish news on plagiarism or academic dishonesty done by students, researchers, and academicians at the higher education level. This paper aims at investigating the factors influencing teachers’ perceptions of plagiarism in higher education in Bangladesh. The researchers used a qualitative research design to answer the research question: What are the perceptions of English teachers about plagiarism at the tertiary level in Bangladesh? For the collection of data, an in-depth interview guide was used to interview 10 English teachers who have ample experience in research and thesis supervision. The data found through the in-depth interview was analyzed thematically. The thematic analysis of the in-depth interviews revealed that the absence of writing courses, the absence of mentioning plagiarism in the course outline, negligence by the teachers and students, the non-existence of plagiarism policy at the institution level, absence of any plagiarism detection software, etc. influence academic writing misconduct. The study ends with a few effective recommendations for reducing plagiarism in higher education for individual and institutional academic behavior in Bangladesh.

Abstract: Educational disparities between rural and urban areas have long been a significant concern, driven by factors such as limited access to educational resources, insufficient infrastructure, and a lack of qualified teachers in rural regions. In response to these challenges, new media technologies (NMT)—ranging from digital learning platforms to artificial intelligence(AI)-driven educational environments—have emerged as promising tools to bridge the educational gap. This research explores the impact of these NMT applications on educational equity in rural areas, emphasizing both the opportunities they create and the challenges they introduce. These technologies have the potential to revolutionize traditional educational methods by providing innovative approaches to knowledge transfer and expanding access to a broader range of educational resources. However, the digital divide—a disparity in access to technology and digital literacy—remains a significant obstacle. Students in rural areas often face challenges such as limited digital literacy, insufficient access to technological equipment, and unreliable Internet connections, all of which exacerbate educational inequalities. This research advocates for targeted investments in Internet infrastructure and comprehensive digital training programs to mitigate these challenges and promote educational equity. By delving into the complexities of integrating NMT into rural education, this study aims to offer valuable insights for policymakers and educators in their efforts to develop inclusive strategies that ensure equitable access to quality education for all students, regardless of their geographic location. The ultimate objective is to create an education system that empowers students in rural and disadvantaged communities to reach their full academic potential.

Abstract: The paper explores the evolution of Internal Quality Control (IQC) in Sierra Leone's higher education institutions (HEIs) with a specific focus on the transformative role of Learning Management Systems (LMS). Beginning with the colonial era, the paper traces the historical context of IQC, emphasizing its informal nature. The post-independence expansion of HEIs introduced quality challenges compounded by economic constraints and political instability. The civil war further disrupted the education sector, and the reconstruction period saw the establishment of the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), formalizing IQC processes. The introduction of LMS platforms, such as Moodle and Google Classroom, marked a pivotal shift in enhancing educational quality. LMS has significantly contributed to data-driven decision-making, standardized educational processes, and continuous feedback mechanisms. However, challenges remain, including infrastructural limitations and the urban-rural digital divide. The paper also projects the future of IQC, highlighting the potential integration of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and blockchain in LMS platforms. These advancements promise to revolutionize the educational experience, offering new possibilities for quality assurance and student engagement.

Abstract: The desire to address equity issues in the education sector is a shared philosophy by a number of countries, including Tanzania. As a result, Tanzania as a country is striving to address the issue of equity in its education system through the implementation of various equity strategies. This paper therefore sought to examine stakeholders’ prospects on the implementation of equity-based strategies in public secondary schools in Tanzania. Precisely, the interest of the researchers was to explore what was being done in the selected public secondary schools to implement equity-based strategies. A mixed-methods research approach combining both qualitative and quantitative analysis approaches was employed. The study also used a multiple case study design, which allowed the selection of two case study areas i.e. Dodoma City representing the urban setting, and Kondoa district representing the rural setting. A total of One Hundred Forty-Four (144) participants from seven (7) public secondary schools were involved in the study. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires. Quantitative data were analyzed through descriptive analysis and presented in numerical and graphical form while qualitative data were analyzed through inductive content analysis and presented in thematic form and narratives. Study findings revealed that the selected study schools were indeed implementing a number of activities towards the realization of equity and thus the prospects for implementing equity based strategies in these schools was found to be positive. For instance, activities such as the use of common and understandable language i.e., English and Kiswahili; ensuring that schools have qualified teaching staff, ensuring a supportive learning environment as well as strengthening and supporting school leadership were being implemented. Nevertheless, the study also noted that the implementation of some key factors critical for realization of equity in the schools such as incentive provision to teachers, use of appropriate technology and use of different learning styles was still weak and thus needed improvement.

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of implementing the Guided Discovery approach on students’ ability to determine the Surface Area of a Cylinder. The research study employed an explanatory-sequential mixed-methods design to instruct a sample of 80 students from a school situated in the Cape Coast Metropolis. The participants were put into an experimental group with no control group. Data was collected using Mathematics Achievement Test MAT and interviews through focus group discussions. The quantitative data was subjected to analysis using two software programs: the Statistical Package for Service Solutions (SPSS version 26.0) and Microsoft Excel 2019 and the qualitative data was analysed thematically. The data was subjected to analysis using descriptive statistics, specifically frequency counts and percentages, as well as inferential statistics, specifically t-tests. The findings indicate a statistically significant difference in the academic achievement of students who were instructed in the concept of the Surface Area of a Cylinder using the Guided Discovery approach. Furthermore, there was no statistically significant difference observed in the post-test scores between male and female students after their exposure to the Guided Discovery method for teaching the Surface Area of a Cylinder. It was also found that students demonstrated positive experiences (clarity, interest, and lesson presentation) when learning with the Guided Discovery. Hence, it is suggested that mathematics educators should utilise the Guided Discovery approach to instruct students on mathematical concepts, to stimulate students' engagement and enthusiasm towards the subject matter.
