Abstract: Since the term China English was ever proposed, debates on it have never suspended in the academic world concerned. Nevertheless, both scholars in the PRC and abroad maintain that China English has become an objective existence. Within the framework of a review of the literature sources pertaining to this localized language phenomenon, this article distinguishes China English with another analogous terminology Chinese English, and adduces the salient linguistic features of the former at four levels (phonology, lexis, syntax, and discourse). Drawing upon the analytical synthesis of the generic attributes of China English, the paper then extracts pedagogical implications to inform EFL teaching in mainland China. The paper closes with a proposal of some tentative suggestions for future research in this realm.

Abstract: This study investigated and compared instructors’ and students’ characteristics that determine student learning strategies. Specifically, the study filled a key gap in the literature by examining the relationship between teacher career motivation and student learning effectiveness. Students and instructors from a public school in England completed the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) and the Orientations for Teaching Survey (OTS), respectively, as well as demographic questions on age, gender, subject specialism and years of service. Findings revealed a significant effect of instructor career motivation on students’ use of resource management strategies (F (4, 22) = 5.02; p =.005; Wilks λ = 0.52), but no effect on students’ use of motivation (F (6, 20) = 1.23; p =.333; Wilks λ = 0.73) or cognitive and metacognitive strategies (F (5, 21) = 1.10; p =.389; Wilks λ = 0.79). Regression analyses found self-efficacy for learning had a mediating effect (R2 =.09; β = 1.96; p = .050) on the relationship between student gender and academic performance. Findings have implications for class goal-orientation and learning style assessment.

Abstract: The international research (OECD PISA, TIMSS, PIRLS) shown, that the results of Lithuanian school children are decreasing. The international research ground this fact by showing a strong connection between the learning motivation of teachers-leaders and their students, as teachers are creating the teaching (learning) environment, encouraging the student initiatives, creating the conditions for the creative activities, etc. Therefore, each teacher has to be a professional, irrespective at the level of education system he would be working on. As it is noted in the ‘The State Progress Strategy 'Lithuania 2030', one of the top priority spheres during the next two decades is an intelligent society, providing it with vast possibilities to learn, integrate and compete in the international space. The preparation of pre-service teachers, as well as the other spheres has to relate to the needs of the ever-changing society. Therefore, recently, more and more attention is given to proper vocational training of pre-service teachers, focusing on the development of their leadership abilities. Therefore, this paper analyses pre-service teacher’s leadership style and its connection with pedagogical professionalism.

Abstract: The clarity of students’ perceptions of their teaching/learning environment is regarded as an important quality indicator of good teaching. The Learning Experience Inventory in Courses (LEI-C) is a 12-item instrument that is designed to assess how clearly students perceive what it is they are required to learn, what they should be doing to learn it appropriately, and what the requirements and standards of assessment are; together yielding a Clarity of Perception Index (CPI). Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were used to establish the factor structure and internal consistency of the subscales comprising the LEI-C and the overall CPI. The LEI-C was administered to 1840 students in class in 37 courses in a Hong Kong university, together with the Study Process Questionnaire (R-SPQ-2F). A total of 1,002 valid responses were collected. Reliability and construct validity of the LEI-C were found to be satisfactory. The CPI was associated with high deep and low surface approaches to learning. These findings have important implications for quality assurance (QA) and especially quality enhancement (QE) of teaching. The LEI-C is a quickly administered instrument that can be used to assess the quality of ongoing teaching, and to pinpoint aspects of teaching that can be enhanced.
