Abstract: Scripts and language were essential tools for expressing one's thoughts and feelings in ancient civilization, and they will be useful in acquiring a better understanding of that civilization. When we talk about scripts, we're talking about a certain way of writing or the textual medium of human communication that is utilized to communicate information. In the history of the world, script has been used to create some of the most important pieces of writing ever written, including some of the most important works of literature ever written. The most important, as well as the most fundamental, aspects of the human condition and of life have been portrayed via the medium of script. An optimum environment for language development is created by the combination of script and language, as well as a solid vocabulary and grammar. They provide a link between people of diverse cultural backgrounds. Despite the presence of various scripts in ancient India, there is a need for extensive investigation into several concerns and questions concerning their intra and inter-relationships. A combination of research methods including formative, observation, open-ended and qualitative methods have been used with a predominance of historical methods. As the main vehicle of communication, the history of script in ancient India has ignited many minds and there have been many works in this regard which merits a review.

Abstract: In recent years, the importance to develop sports industry has reached national level. Due to the policy dividend and continuous increasing of disposable income per capita, sports industry has speeded up and the scale of sports consumption has been expanded. Considering previous studies, this study classified the motivation of college students' sports consumption into six categories: physical product needs, health needs, conformity and comparison needs, aesthetic needs, social needs and sports achievement needs. Using a sample of 1024 college students from Guangzhou, China, this study systematically investigates the structural characteristics and influencing factors of college students' upgraded sports consumption by adopting an ordered multinomial logistic regression model. It is found that the current structure of College Students' upgraded sports consumption is characterized as intelligent, integrated and diverse, showing dynamically consistency with the development direction of sports industry. In terms of influencing factors, gender, sports awareness, sports habits and preferences, community sports participation all effect sports consumption significantly. Therefore, school and society should actively work to further enrich the sports consumption structure of college students, help them form good sports consumption values, strengthen their sports awareness and help them create lifelong sports habit. Measures that are mentioned above will provide endogenous dynamic for high-quality development of sports industry.

Abstract: With the development of society and the rise of women's movements, women's status has been paid more and more attention. Women's status is a multi-dimensional concept, and there are many standards for measurement. This paper selects three of the earliest used and representative three dimensions, which are household responsibilities, freedom of movement, and economic autonomy. The concept of women's status is complex, and there are many factors that may affect female status. The maternity policy is one of the population policies and also one of the most important guarantees for the welfare of women. It is a broad concept covering family support measures, family mutual employment measures, reproductive health measures and maternity insurance, which are all to ensure the basic living needs of female workers when they give birth to children and maintain social stability. Therefore, the impact of maternity policy on the status of women is very huge. This paper explores how maternity policy affects the status of women as measured by the three dimensions mentioned above. By comparing with other European countries, explore what efforts have been made in the UK to improve the status of women, and which policies have been proved to have a positive impact on the promotion of gender equality. Moreover, based on the conclusions, this paper also puts forward implications on how to increase the fertility rate and improve the maternity policy in China.

Abstract: Media reports are often analyzed as a specialized variety of discourse that may reflect the social and cultural values of a nation, and metaphors always function to enhance the effectiveness of media discourse. Metaphors in news have long been explored by sociolinguistic researchers, but diachronic studies that examine how metaphor use changes over time are still limited. Following a corpus-assisted discourse analysis, this study examined the metaphorical characterizations of corruption-related concepts in three English-language news media of China (Global Times, China Daily, and People’s Daily) over 12 years from 2007 to 2018. The findings can be summarized into the following four aspects: (1) The types of source domains were largely stable over time, i.e., WAR, POISON and DISEASE, DIRT, PLANT, and ANIMAL; (2) The mapping within a source domain changed diachronically; (3) Increased use of creative metaphors and enriched metaphorical depictions were found in the more recent years; and (4) The metaphors appeared to evoke more Chinese cultural schemas across time, which in turn provided contexts for further understandings of these metaphors. It is thus argued that the news discourse in China has been experiencing an ongoing process to employ more creative metaphors to express Chinese worldviews and cultural beliefs. It has also shown that a qualitative discourse analysis combined with quantitative corpus-assisted methods can provide effective research framework for an in-depth diachronic understanding of the changes in metaphor use. This study may be of assistance to researchers who are interested in media studies, sociolinguistics, and news writing.

Abstract: Children have been thrust into a “portable age” where handheld devices, such as smartphones, tablets or iPads, have become a part of the daily norm. Parental factors and early life experiences, such as engaging in screen devices, have been widely established as major influences on children’s outcomes. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between the mental health of parents, parental and child screen time (ST), and child outcomes. A longitudinal study of mothers and fathers (N = 214) were recruited at two time points (T1, April 2019-February 2020; T2, September 2020-February 2021). Due to loss to follow-up, the final sample consisted of 101 participants (97 mothers, 4 fathers) with a mean age of 37.55 (SD = 4.14). Children of participants had a mean age of T1 = 5.25 (SD = .44) and T2=6.51 (SD = .52). Participants completed a battery of self-report questionnaires regarding their own mental health, their child’s and their own engagement with handheld devices, as well as their child’s internalising and externalising behaviour. The study demonstrated that parental anxiety significantly predicted child internalising symptoms, whereas both parental anxiety and depression significantly predicted child externalising symptoms, across time. These findings suggest that after controlling for ST, parental mental health is predictive of temporal child outcomes. Future studies should consider early intervention programs that target parents with mental health concerns, examining children who engage in excessive ST, and consider context and content of ST amongst these trends.

Abstract: The concept of public space, which had its letter of nobility with Habermas, is at the center of democratic organization. It defines an intermediary space between civil society and the State. However, we cannot speak about such a space today without taking into account the complexity of the digital reality that characterizes it. The development of digital technology has redefined the physical borders between States as well as the relationship between citizenship and territory. The use of digital media has also transformed the modalities of collective action by making new forms of intersubjectivity possible, and more spontaneous and direct forms of participation have also emerged. Through the digital effect, the transformation of public space into digital public space reflects big problems of impoverishment of living together and collective action in Cameroon. This paper goes through the different modes of regulation, not without defining its role as a framework that would make public space a place based on communicative action and ethics. It also attempts to organize new forms of digital sociability and to rebuild living together. A moral education focused on redefining the bases of the social contract extended to all virtual spheres is presented as a way of reintegrating the fundamental principles of living.

Abstract: One of the most widely debated areas of medieval Indian History is the Deccan policy of the Mughals especially under Aurangzeb who annexed Golconda and Bijapur, prominent Deccani Kingdoms. There have been many questions and interpretations on the motive of Aurangzeb encompassing sectarian and imperial factors. The views on the issue are varied and diversified. Aurangzeb was a strong advocate for annexation of the Deccani kingdoms even during the time when he was the Deccan Governor during the reign of this father and Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. However, Shah Jahan was not in favor of annexing the states but was content with extracting tribute from them and has allowed them to remain as independent states. However, when Aurangzeb became the emperor, he had finally annexed the states after crushing the Marathas. The present paper examines various possibilities that prompted the last powerful Mughal Emperor to invade and annex Golconda kingdom under the Qutub Shahis. It also analyses the outcome of the annexation with questions such as whether or not Aurangzeb was able to reap any benefits of the annexation of Golconda and on the process of economic and administrative integration of the Deccani State into the imperial networks and its fall out.

Abstract: Tao Te Ching is a work by Laozi, one of the greatest philosophers in Chinese history. Despite the large number of existing translations, it is still necessary to revisit, reinterpret and retranslate it for the need of changing readers and market. Previous translation studies of Tao Te Ching focused on the interpretation of important terms and concepts, the comparison of different versions to discuss translation strategies. Some researchers used corpus tools to compare overall stylistic differences, but ignored minute details reflected in translators’ word choice. Improving upon previous ones, this study uses corpus tools to comparatively analyze two English versions of Tao Te Ching translated by Lin Yutang and by James Legge. Their lexical diversity is calculated with a more reliable measure: moving average type/token ratio (MATTR). A wordlist is then made to extract 10 most frequent content words in the source text for detailed comparison of their translation. Similarities are found in both translations. First, they have a similar level of lexical diversity. Second, they share a degree of inconsistency of word choice when translating high-frequency words. Third, both combine the translation strategies of domestication and foreignization. Differences are found as well. First, Legge has a preference for explicitation and poetic effect. Second, Lin makes his choice more dependent upon the changing context.

Abstract: Well known in religious culture, the symbol “Eye of Providence” or “All-seeing eye” is an emblem sign with deep foundations, which lies in the architectural and iconographic tradition of Christianity, Masonic societies, various esoteric circles. The Radiant Delta became a visual icon in the 15th century and was used in mystical philosophical teachings, and as a decoration on religious paintings and works of art. “The Eye”, as an emblem, was incorporated into the interiors and exteriors of both Orthodox and Catholic churches, often in the most visible way. The glow of the all-pervading “Eye” inside or above the triangle has become a metaphor meaning the One God with his essence of all-encompassing and all-seeing and is sometimes interpreted as a symbol beyond the reach of human imagination and objective cognition. However, referring to archaic religions and mythologies, the author reveals archetypal images and schemes, signs and their combinations, which are hiding concepts, notions and structural-semantic patterns, that are obvious precursors to the formation of the modern cult symbol of the “Eye of Providence”. The article examines the history of the “Eye of Providence” as a symbol, which in the biblical tradition undergoes its formation from a textual sign to an iconographic image and leads its common thread of “written history” from the ancient temple cult. From this the specificity of the semantic structure of the studied sign-symbol and certain historical and cultural contexts in which the above symbol is developing, is determined. The author proves that the metaphorical symbol of the “Eye” with its semantic specificity existed long before the emergence of the biblical expression and was specifically reproduced in different ancient peoples. Initially, it was associated with cult buildings. From the point of view of the archaic human cognition of the symbol under study, the regularities concerning natural phenomena and the visible Cosmos, by the “patronage” of which the original expression of the sacred “Eye” was born, are revealed. The work involves research on the temple of Trypillia culture, because the establishment of a universal „thread of history” of the „Eye” expression from the archaic temple cult and cult buildings gives rise to such an appeal. With this it is established that the „Heavenly Eye” expression originated from the astronomical situation and was associated with the stellar allegory of Taurus / Taurus constellation – a sacred image in many cultures of the Eneolithic era.
