Abstract: Each firm faces a unique set of competitors when similarities among products and resources are considered to identify competitors. Despite much debate in the strategy literature on strategic assets, competitive capabilities and firm performance, little consensus has been generated. Thus, the gap the current paper seeks to fill. The study’s objectives are as follows; to review the extant theoretical literature on strategic assets, competitive capabilities and firm performance, to review the extant empirical literature on strategic assets, competitive capabilities and firm performance, to identify the gaps in literature that will help in understanding the relationship between strategic assets, competitive capabilities and firm performance and to propose a theoretical framework based on the identified theoretical and empirical gaps. This study will be important in terms of empirical enhancement since past studies have limitation of the empirical research on strategic assets and competitiveness in regards to being imperfect comparability of results across different studies using different variables (features) describing competitiveness. This paper contributes to the theoretical research on strategic assets, competitive capabilities and firm performance not only by the synthesis of old and new writings as well as the findings of the exploratory studies, but also by concept synthesis. Since the concept of strategic assets and competitive capability can be reported to individual product/service, enterprise/farm, industry, economic sector, region, nation or international economic blocks, the attempts towards creating one common definition of strategic assets, competitive capabilities seem to be doomed to fail. This study is significance because it will be used in the developing of government policies on strategic assets, competitive capabilities and its links to performance which requires an understanding of the major factors that facilitate or impede firms’ ability to compete. These factors can, however, differ depending on a country, region or industry. This study will facilitate polices on public spending and taxes, exchange rates, interest rates, and government regulatory activities as some of the examples of key macroeconomic determinants of competitiveness.

Abstract: Based on the theory of emotional contagion and similar attraction paradigm, this research explored the psychological mechanism of coaching leadership promoting employee voice behavior. The results showed that subordinate psychological capital mediated the relationship between coaching leadership and employee voice behavior. Moreover, supervisor employee dyadic tenure significantly moderated the positive relationships between coaching leadership and voice behavior. Research findings enrich theory and practice of coaching leadership.

Abstract: In modern container transportation, the containers transshipment between the quayside and landside plays a key role in the efficiency of a container terminal. From the perspective of logistics, port operations are determined by the port facilities, space and running time, and a focus on container movement within the terminal will draw more attention on the operational efficiency of port transportation and handling of the terminal. By analyzing the elements of the system operations, a mathematical model is setup to solve container movement by truck routing and yard layout. With the model and the instance data from a container terminal, the container truck tour and optimization problem is well settled, and the model’s feasible application is discussed.

Abstract: This study aims to select the appropriate method the most able to distinguish between distressed and non-distressed economic companies, which will lead us to know the most important variables that can detect the pre-distress for Algerian economic companies, specifically in the Algerian environment, through the comparison between the findings of the application of two of the most important statistical methods, i.e, discriminant and logistic analysis, on a sample of 60 companies; half of them is distressed and the other half is non-distressed according to four financial ratios selected among the financial ratios the most used by researchers, namely: sales to total assets, working capital to total assets, profit before interest and tax and the ratio of equity to total assets. We concluded, by comparing the findings of the discriminant model and logistic model classification, that the latter is more able to distinguish between distressed and non-distressed Algerian economic companies by 96.7%, compared to the findings of the Fischer discriminant model classification by 91.7%.

Abstract: For interaction between dry port and sea port, rail-sea multimodal transport is the main transportation and organization mode. The extended construction of corridors of rail-sea multimodal transport needed to be studied further. It will help to establish unified mechanism of transportation coordination, realize compatible standard transport rules, and promote the development of enterprises of sea and dry ports. Take Ningbo-Zhoushan sea port as an example, the options of multimodal transport corridors from Ningbo-Zhoushan to southwest areas are analyzed and optimized. In this paper, a TOPSIS decision model based on entropy weight is proposed, helping to effectively select the optimal multimodal transport plan. It is concluded that the best transport plan of 20 feet container from Ningbo-Zhoushan to Chengdu and Guiyang is the direct railway transport. The best transport plan of 20 feet container from Ningbo-Zhoushan to Kunming is the goods transported by rail from Ningbo-Zhoushan to Chongqing and then road from Chongqing to Kunming. Finally, it is suggested that promote the extension and radiation of port function and invest in the construction and operation of dry port.

Abstract: This paper tried to discuss the core social networks of general manager and the “middle man” which might hoodwink general manager (GM) from the employees through immersive observation and inductive inference. The author studied 3 successors with their subordinates of a fortune 500 company for 16 years. It can be concluded that the middle man emerge from nobody but a subordinate of some GM by frequent formal communications and personal interactions and eventually gets trusted and promoted to high level position. The reliance of GM on middle man in emotions establishes middleman’s personal authority by monopolizing communication channels of GM, and thereby hastening, delaying or influencing decision making process of the GM. The middle man grasps ability of pursuing self-interests when turning into “the real” decision maker by controlling communication process, thus might have negative impact on operational performance and career of GM.
