Abstract: Since the reform and opening up of China, foreign exchanges and cooperation have been dramatically increasing. China English lexis has emerged to facilitate and express phenomena or ideas with Chinese characteristics in politics, economy, social culture, daily life and other fields. As a member of World English, China English has received increasing attention in academic circles in the past few decades. However, most of the current researches on China English only focused on the macro level such as its formation, definition, characteristics, lacks case analysis, and quantitative research. The study of China English lexis in this thesis is conducive to the enrichment of English expression and research materials for the future study of China English. Meanwhile, it will also enhance the national pride and confidence of Chinese people to a certain extent and spread Chinese culture. China Daily is one of the most crucial and authoritative newspapers in China. It serves as an online bridge between China and the world. This thesis has extracted the China English lexis from about 3000 news articles from the China section of China Daily from October, 2020 to October, 2021 as research materials. It made use of a pie chart and tables to deal with the application frequency of each method used for translation of China English lexis. From the domestication and “foreignization” perspective, this thesis makes an analysis of the translation methods of China English lexis at the same time. The research results show that the China English lexis in China Daily is mainly translated by the “strategy. At the same time, the translator adopted literal translation as the major translation method. Adopting the Foreignization” translation strategy cannot only enrich the English expressions but also effectively carry out the cultural exchange with foreign countries. Therefore, it is recommended to choose the “Foreignization” strategy to render China English in the future and likewise, in doing Chinese-English translation in the field of external publicity.

Abstract: This paper examines the concept of construal, the components of construal and the correlation of construal and translation, then employs the five elements of construal to investigate the construal disparities of Shi Shenghan and Joseph Needham when translating A Preliminary Survey of the Book: Qi Min Yao Shu based on three dimensional analysis: the translation of the book title, the sentence and the paragraph. It is found that their construal disparities are embodied not only in the selection of translation strategies and methods, but also in that of words and expressions, sentence structures, positive and passive voices, figurative devices and language forms/genre type in translation, which is inseparable from the background knowledge and cultural scope the translator possesses, the focus of prominence the translator desires, the standpoint and viewpoint the translator holds, and the varying levels of precision and detail the translator portrays. Apart from Shi’s translation manuscript and Joseph’s revision, the first-hand material involved, this research takes no the translation principle and quality into considerations, providing a relatively new perspective for translation studies compared with the prescriptive one and that of imposing value-judgement.

Abstract: Translation into English is a benchmark of success in recent decades. Reaching the English reader maybe the bridge to reach the world. However, English readers are said to prefer fluent readings. In the modern capitalist world, is this preference granted? This study aimed at investigating the presence of a preference of fluency in the reviews of Davies’ translation of Al-Shidyāq’s Leg over Leg. The focus of this research is Arabic translated literature. Such a study is essential in revealing the extent to which the reviews of Arabic translated works go in line what scholars found in the reviews of non-Arabic translated ones into English. It is also fundamental in evaluating the fluency of Arabic translated works and comparing such an evaluation with that mentioned in previous studies. The approach adopted in this thesis included analysis of Leg over Leg’s translation, translation’s reviews and translator’s notes. Berman Analysis of translation was the tool to treat the first chapter of Leg over Leg. The reviews and notes were evaluated; the data obtained from the analysis were compared for parallelism. The findings of this research provided evidence that the reviews of translated Arabic works may deviate from what scholars confirmed about a presence of a preference of fluent translations. The main conclusions drawn from this study: there was no clear preference of fluency in the reviews of Davies’s translation of Leg over Leg; they were professionally deep and reliable; and Davies’s translation was transparent and showed its Arabic original. These findings matched what Davies stated in his notes. The researcher recommends conducting further studies to have a comprehensive understanding of the treatment and reception of Arabic translated works.

Abstract: In Cameroon, the search for solutions to the problems of poverty and unemployment is the main concern of public authorities and development partners. The Youths of Rey-Bouba locality of North Cameroon, benefit in the framework of the optimization of programs for development of the agricultural sector, the support of the National Program of Participatory Development (PNDP) and Plan-Cameroon, which are two organizations that support development. But when we look at it, we deplore the fact that these young people are unable to achieve their socio-economic integration. To better understand this state of affairs, this article aims to assess the impact of the communication languages used to conduct these agricultural programs. To this end, a survey based on observation, questionnaire, interviews and documentary research, conducted among 800 local subjects, including the populations of the villages of the borough of Rey-Bouba, the officials of the Town Hall, the PNDP and Plan-Cameroun, reveals that communication between beneficiaries of agricultural projects and support organizations is done in official languages. These languages, in particular French and English, are poorly mastered by local populations. Since the translation and interpretation of these texts are not precise, the chances of empowerment and socio-professional integration of Youths are undermined. The work then recommends the use of local languages in the development strategy of the agricultural sector.

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to discuss the contents of a translator training programme for the African region, especially West Africa. After making an update on the translator profile and the translator competence, using both a deductive and a descriptive approach, the paper has developed a curriculum comprising elements of core knowledge as well as specialised knowledge, research methods and general knowledge. Core knowledge comprises the theory and history of translation studies, linguistics and specialised translation. The area of specialism is made up of law and economics lectures, reading comprehension exercises, writing skills, bilingual oral communication, and terminology lectures. Scientific research methodology focuses on research approaches in Translation Studies. Research approaches include qualitative and/or quantitative research, conceptual research, evaluative research, context-oriented translation, participant oriented translation, translation as a process, translation as a product, critical discourse analysis, etc. General knowledge enhances students’ language skills and knowledge of both French and English speaking countries’ civilisations and cultures. The main findings are that translator competence is essentially a system of operational rather than declarative knowledge; translator profile depends on the labour market demands; the constructivist approach to education is more convenient in a translation training programme; students’ evaluation should be both formative and summative.
