Abstract: Medication adherence is a key determinant of the success of pharmacotherapy in patients with schizophrenia and can have an impact on the quality of life. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of a psychiatric nursing intervention on adherence to medications and quality of life of schizophrenic patients. A Quasi-experimental design (one group pretest-posttest) was used. The study was conducted at Outpatient Clinics of The Psychiatric and Addiction Treatment Hospital in MIT-Khalaf at Menoufia, Egypt. Non-probability sampling of 50 schizophrenic patients from the previously mentioned setting was recruited. Tools of the study include a structured interview questionnaire, the Medication Adherence Rating Scale and The world health organization quality of life (WHOQOL-BRIEF) scale. The study illustrated that, there was a statistically significant improvement in attitude toward medication and quality of life of patients with schizophrenia after implementation of a psychiatric nursing intervention. In conclusion: the psychiatric nursing intervention was effective in improvement of medication adherence and quality of life of schizophrenic patients. So, it was recommended that, the psychiatric hospital should utilize educational programs to all psychiatric inpatients and outpatients to improve their awareness about their disorder and their medications to improve their adherence and quality of life.

Abstract: Nursing and midwifery are stressful professions due to the requirements of patients’ care. They require a high degree of self-regulation and emotional intelligence (EI). The aim of this study was to identify the relationship between nursing students' EI and their clinical performance during obstetrics and gynecologic nursing practical training. A descriptive correlational research design was utilized. The study was conducted at the faculty of nursing, Benha University. A convenience sample of all third year female students (N=98) who were registered at reproductive health nursing course at the time of study was included. Two tools were used for data collection; first tool is a structured interview schedule to collect data about the subjects' demographic characteristics and the Schutte Self Report Emotional Intelligence Test. Second tool for clinical performance evaluation it composed of performance checklist for different obstetrics and gynecologic nursing procedures and evaluation of supportive clinical performance skills. There was a positive correlation (p<0.05) between students' EI and their total clinical performance skills. On the other hand, there was no statistically significant relation (p>0.05) between students EI and their demographic characteristics. It can be concluded that there was a significant positive correlation between students' EI and their clinical performance skills. The topic of EI should be included as a basic component of nursing curriculum in order to develop students’ EI abilities. Furthermore, Training courses and seminars about EI should be conducted for the nursing educators in order to develop and improve their own and students’ EI skills.

Abstract: Overweight and obesity are received a great concern and becoming a high priority globally. Obesity is associated with diversity of health problem as well as decline in quality of life. This study was designed to estimate the prevalence of obesity; the association between body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio and quality of life. The design used in this study was descriptive correlational design. Study subjects were convenience samples of 310 adult female recruited from female colleges in Wadi Addawasir. The data was collected using self-administered questionnaire that consisted of socio-demographic data, participants' weight perception, World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief (WHOQOL-Brief) and anthropometric measurements included weight, height, waist circumference, hip circumference. The main findings of this study indicated that the prevalence of general obesity according to BMI was 29.7%, and abdominal obesity according to WC, and WHR were 34.2% and 35.5%, respectively. A statistically significant difference between participants' weight perception and the existing BMI, X 2 = 50.52, P = 0.00, indicated participants misperception of their weight. The mean total score of WHOQOL-Brief scale was (70.01±11.31) and social relationships domain was the highest score, the mean = 73.02 ± 17.10, while lowest score was psychological domain, the mean = 64.76 ± 13.73. Moreover, 32.3% of subjects good quality of life, while only 3.9% had poor quality of life. A significant negative correlation was revealed between BMI, WC, WHR and total score of quality of life, p = -.012,.033,.012 respectively. Moreover, the participants with increased BMI had decreased quality of life compared to those of normal BMI F = 3.209, P =.023. Conclusion: General and abdominal obesity were highly prevalent among adult Saudi females as measured by BMI, WHR. Misperception of weight was revealed and minority of subjects had good quality of life. Obesity was associated with significant decrease in quality of life. Recommendation: Effective health education strategies are required to help in increase females' awareness and perception of their weight, thus affecting their decisions and behaviors to minimize obesity and its negative influences on their health and consequently their quality of life.

Abstract: The training and academic performance of student nurses is the crux to having competent polyvalent nurses in the healthcare delivery system. This study sought to determine the perception of student nurses on the variables influencing academic achievement in Nnamdi Azikiwe University Nnewi Campus. A descriptive survey was used to elicit information from a sample of 108 respondents statistically drawn using stratified random sampling technique from a population of 146. Results indicated an overall poor academic performance. The significant variables that influence academic achievement as identified by the respondents were marital status, age, income, occupation and educational status of parents. Others include school location, basic amenities, stress, academic motivation, past academic records and study skills; learning approach, time management, group discussion and clinical experiences. The hypothesis revealed that there is a significant relationship between socioeconomic status of parents and the academic achievement of nursing students. Based on the findings, the researchers recommended that students, parents, teachers, administrators, policymakers and the government should make efforts to understand and examine these factors so as to initiate or make the necessary restructuring and interventions needed to revamp the academic performance of the students.

Abstract: The concept of patient advocacy has received international recognition over the last two decades. Although much researches has been done on nurses’ attitudes in general, little has been done focusing particularly on oncology patient advocacy and almost no research was conducted in Saudi Arabian: The current study aimed to assess nurses’ attitudes toward patient advocacy in oncology department University hospital. The study followed a cross-sectional descriptive design and was carried out in the oncology department at university hospital in Jeddah, kingdom of Saudi Arabian. All nurses (n= 46) who were working in the previously mentioned units and willing to participate in study were included. All of them were responsible for providing direct health care to oncology patients. Data gathering tool used was the Attitude toward patient advocacy instrument which was developed by Wu and BU (2008) and adapted to measure nurses ' attitudes toward advocacy of oncology patients. It consists of three components of nurses attitudes 64 items. This study found that the mean percentage scores of the participants' overall attitudes toward oncology patients advocacy was relatively positive 82.06 (SD 5.61). The highest mean scores percentages of participants' attitudes were found on nurses response to acting on behalf of patients dimension 84.80 (SD 5.92), However, participants' attitude to championing social justice dimension of patient advocacy was the least item 79.59 (SD 6.49). Also, the results explains the relationship between nurses' attitudes and socio demographic characteristics. Nurses who were working in oncology wards had positive attitude toward patient advocacy. This study recommended incorporating patient advocacy in their curricula or designed programs. It is necessary to be included in the Saudi nursing student curriculum, and it should be continued for nurses to improve the quality of this role. In addition, encourage non Saudi nurses specifically, those from different cultural backgrounds to express their feelings toward patient advocacy. The study highlights important issues to be considered in hospital settings that recruit healthcare providers of diverse nationalities and support changes needed in the workplace setting to promote advocacy action for the patients’ sake.

Abstract: Osteoporosis is a worldwide health problem affecting more than 200 million people. Female are at high risk for disease because female have lower bone mass and smaller bones than men", adding menopause period lead to intense reduction into estrogen level and lose calcium more rapidly. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of educational nursing intervention about osteoporosis on knowledge of adults. A quasi experimental research design with pre posttest was utilized to achieve the aim of study. The study was conducted at orthopedic outpatient's clinic at Menoufia University Hospital. A purposive sample of 300 adult and their relative attended for orthopedic outpatient clinic were undertaken. An instructional interviewing questionnaire used to assess knowledge about osteoporosis. It consisted of 3 parts: Part one for socio demographic data, Part two for medical history and part three for knowledge about osteoporosis The studied subjects had inadequate knowledge (100%) in the pre educational intervention while after the nursing educational intervention program, three quarters of them were adequately educated, and only 25% were inadequately educated. The educational intervention has a positive effect on adult's knowledge about osteoporosis. Educational intervention about osteoporosis should be held periodically. Educational program should be published through mass media.

Abstract: The migraine is a neurological disorder that represents a seventh health problem leading cause of years of life lost to disability condition. Lifestyle factors include dieting and fasting, exercising and physical activities, stress level and sleeping and resting habits, smoking and medications and drugs, these factors affecting frequency, duration, and severity of migraine, and changing these factors in lifestyle decreases the frequency and severity of the migraine headache. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of lifestyle modification program on reducing migraine disability among migraineurs suffers. Also, the quasi experimental research design was used in this study. This study was carried out in Ismailia, Egypt. 70 migraineurs suffers were selected from attendance neurology outpatient clinic and emergency department complaining of signs and symptoms of migraines over six months and not complaining of any chronic diseases. Migraineurs suffers who signed the informed consent to participate in this study after explaining the aim of the study. Data collection tools were a demographic questionnaire, migraine headache characteristics, their knowledge about magraine, and their lifestyle habits. Migraine Disability Assessment Test scores was measured in two stages, before and three months after implementation of their lifestyle modification. The frequency, and severity of migraine headache was reducing and migraine disability change from sever disability to mild disability after implementation the program. Consequently, the lifestyle improved the frequency and severity of headaches and self-reported disability from headaches. As well as, the health education to the migraineurs suffers about the prevention of recurrent migraines.

Abstract: An organizational culture has been studied over the decades to be understandable. This research aimed to find out the most dominant culture profile for each hospital by using the competing value framework (CVF). Quantitative descriptive and analytical design were applied to find out the organizational culture profile. Two hospitals were selected to represent the governmental hospitals in Port-Said city. Total studied sample 250 participants. A convenience sample was implemented. Generally, the highest mean score of an agreement was (M =3.3, at SD=0,74) reported for the Hierarchy organizational culture followed by Clan culture at (M= 3.29 SD=.75). While the lowest mean score for agreement was (M= 3.2, SD= 0. 70) (M= 3.2, SD= 0.72) for the Adhocracy and Market organizational culture. The findings of this study indicated that the organizational culture type and culture profile for each hospital. This study recommended that the managers have to permits of an expressing the ideas of empowering and encouraging the care providers to participate in decision-making and problem-solving process and conduct training workshop to learn and improve the organizational culture in a manner that will increase the chances of financial and operational success.

Abstract: Students’ academic performance plays an important role in producing the best quality graduates who will become great leader and manpower for the country thus responsible for the country economic and social development. This article sought to study the relationship between academic self-concept and students’ performance among school age children. A descriptive correlational design was utilized in this study. This article was carried out in freedom school for basic education boys and girls at Cairo governorate. A purposive sample was composed of 182 school age children and their teachers. Tools of data collection consisted of three parts: 1-Structured Questionnaire: it consisted of students’ socio-demographic characteristics including personal data; such as gender, age, and family history, family size. 2- Academic Self-Concept Scale, 3-Academic Performance Rating Scale. Results indicated that there was a significant statistical relationship between academic self-concept and students’ performance among school age children. This finding implies that there was a wide gap in how males develop their self-concept as compared with female students. The relationship between gender and academic performance was investigated. It was concluded that students’ academic self-concept can affect their performance. The students with high academic achievement receive reward and have more opportunities in future. The researchers recommended implementing psycho-educational program in formal and informal curriculum for parents, teachers to provide a chance for students express themselves and developing their self-esteem and self-confidence.
