Then after intervention, the mean pain score decreased to 6.4 during active phase for aromatherapy group compared to 8.9 for control group. Also, the mean pain score decreased to 7.7 during transitional phase for aromatherapy group compared to 9.6 for control group. There is a statistical significant difference between the two groups after the intervention. Moreover, the mean anxiety score before intervention was (55.47 and 50.40) respectively among the aromatherapy and control group. However, it decreased during the active and transitional phase to (38.40, 36.63) respectively among aromatherapy group compared to (45.13, 44.07) respectively among control group. The difference was statistically significant. The present study concluded that aromatherapy massage with lavender oil can reduce pain and anxiety during labour. Also, it is an effective way to decrease labor duration. It was recommended that lavender aromatherapy massage can be offered to women in labour for pain relief.

The data collection tool was an interview questionnaire form covering socio-demographic characteristics, school achievement, and selected domains of the Global Risk Assessment Device (GRAD) scale. The fieldwork was from the beginning of October to the end of December 2015. The results showed that 18% of children had academic failure. Statistically significant relations were revealed between school achievement and school children’s gender (p=0.001), age (p=0.03), grade (p=0.001), father education (p=0.02), mother age (p=0.19), residence (p=0.01), and income (p < 0.001). School achievement was also related to the educational (p < 0.001), accountability (p < 0.001), and health care (p < 0.001) factors of GRAD. In multivariate analysis, the risk factors predicting academic failure were a higher school grade, and higher scores of educational, accountability, and health care factors. In conclusion, the school performance of school children in slum area is most influenced by accountability, educational and health care factors, and higher school grade. Intervention studies are needed to investigate the effectiveness of school-based programs addressing these identified factors in improving school performance among these adolescents.

Aim: To assess nurses’ perceptions concerning patient safety culture and the applicability of medication safety rules. Design: A descriptive correlational design was utilized. Settings: Six hospitals affiliated to the Ministry of Health from three governorates in Egypt. Participants: A sample of 421 nurses was chosen from the selected hospitals to participate in a structured questionnaire dealing with twelve dimensions to determine the level of nurses’ awareness and their perceptions of patient safety culture, and the application of medication safety rules was measured by 99 questions under thirteen dimensions to collect the study data. The results revealed that only 26.13% of studied nurses indicated a high perception of overall patient safety culture, although 77.90% reported no adverse events during the last six months. Furthermore, 76.72% reported that they applied overall medication rules to prevent errors. Based on the study findings, it is recommended to develop strategies to disseminate patient safety culture and reduce punitive culture in health organizations, creating a climate of open communication and continuous learning. The development and optimizing of data collection and reporting systems and evidence-based programs for improving culture of patient safety in hospitals is necessary, and nurses must be encouraged to learn more about incident reports and how to write medication administration error reports.
