Abstract: This study examines teacher leadership and how it starts with self-leadership. An effective teacher leader must be able to lead oneself effectively before he or she can lead others within and outside the classroom. Self-leadership is the practice in which one intentionally influences their thinking, feelings, and actions in order to achieve specific objectives. Self-leadership is an aspect of positive self-influence by defining how one excels within the teaching profession and within the classroom. Self-discovery is a vital step to effective self-leadership. Self-discovery is initiated by self-reflection, which comprises examining individual life, experiences, and responses to situations. Self-discovery is a critical process not only for teacher leadership, but also personal development, performance improvements, and ultimate life enrichment. Self-leadership is founded on self-acceptance. Self-leadership is about one choosing to influence their thinking, feelings, and actions intentionally. Teacher leadership often starts with good self-leadership such that a teacher may be able to influence the learners positively.

Abstract: The present study is mainly focused on a novice Japanese language teacher’s identity through online language teaching under the pandemic of COVID-19. Due to the high risks of public health in the U.S. society, all her Japanese classes have been migrated from in-person to live-online since March 2020. In an attempt to fill the research gap in terms of types of data and target languages, this qualitative research study presents the experiences of a female native speaker of Japanese as a novice teacher at a public university located in the U.S. Viewing identity as an entity rather than separated notions, the author conducts both interviews and class observations to explore the participant’s teaching beliefs and perceptions of online language teaching, as well as her identity construction and transition through this unusual period of time. The data collected from the interviews and class observations reveal three themes that are 1) the participant’s teaching beliefs on authenticity and communication in terms of language teaching, 2) her perceptions of pros and cons of teaching Japanese live-online, and 3) various strategies that she applies to successfully construct her professional identities and transit her identities between personal and professional. Additionally, a discussion about how the novice Japanese language teacher adjusts herself during the special time of the pandemic concludes the article.

Abstract: Under the trend of "Internet+Education", the online and offline blended teaching mode has become an important direction of teaching reform. This article takes the course "Cooking Technology" as an example to build an online and offline blended teaching mode, and investigates the application of blended teaching in the teaching of applied undergraduate courses. Using empirical analysis and interview methods, the article found that the curriculum teaching of "Cooking Technology" has insufficient combination of theory and practice, single teaching mode, poor teaching effect, and heavy teaching tasks. Base on the principle of student-centered, pedagogical coherence, integration of theory and practice, this article designs the blended teaching activities for the "Cooking Technology" course from the three major links, which is the pre-course phase, in-class stage and after-school phase. This article puts forward the issues that should be focus on interaction in blended learning and teaching, establishing a reasonable and sound appraisal method, pay attention to the percentage of online instruction used, so as to provide reference and reference for the construction of "golden courses" of culinary majors and other majors. Finally, the study found that the blended teaching can better cultivate students' autonomy in learning and solve the basic problems that most students are not interested in learning.

Abstract: Cooperative learning strategies have the tendency to enhance the academic strength of learners. In this paper, the independent variable, type of cooperative strategy, included three levels: Jig-Saw, Think-Pair-Share, and Brainstorming. The dependent variable was the students’ individual mathematics achievement scores and the covariate was the students’ group score when the cooperative strategy was used. A preliminary analysis that sought to assess the homogeneity-of-regression assumption indicated that the relationship between the covariate and the dependent variable did not differ significantly as a function of the independent variable, F (2, 81) =.045, p =.956. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to reduce the three covariates to one score factor for ANCOVA procedure. A significant relationship was found between academic achievement score with respect to a cooperative strategy used and the individual academic achievement scores, F (2, 83) = 249.030, p <. 05. About 86% of the total variance in individual mathematics achievement score was accounted for by the three levels of cooperative strategy controlling for the students’ academic group scores. Jigsaw cooperative strategy (Mean: 3.4, SE: 0.068, p < 0.01) had the most impact on individual achievement in mathematics with students obtaining an average grade of B+. The findings also showed from the PCA that the mathematics achievement scores of the group treated with Jig-Saw cooperative strategy explained most (about 39%) of the total variance, followed by Think-Pair-share with the least being Brainstorming. Explained in another way, when students use Jig-saw learning strategy in Mathematics, their individual academic potentials are enhanced well than when Think-Pair-Share or Brainstorming is used. It is therefore recommended for Jig-saw strategy to be the preferred strategy for learning when mathematics teachers seek to improve deep learning and problem solving among students.

Abstract: The relatively perfect curriculum system of American community colleges has laid a solid foundation for the technical talents and the smooth connection of general vocational integration. It has also trained a large number of highly skilled technical personnel for various communities in the United States. In order to promote the construction of an integrated curriculum system of vocational education in China, based on the analysis of the logic structure of the curriculum system of American community colleges, this paper summarizes the three characteristics of the system, which are "unity of freedom and flexibility, compatibility of academic and professional, and combination of cohesion and development". Analyze the dilemma of "loose architecture," "out of focus" and "low relevance of vocational and technical courses". Based on this, from the perspective of innovation and development, this paper explores the three trends of American community college curriculum system “adjust and update the course content; enhancing the effectiveness of developmental education programs; establish a unified certificate system and curriculum system” and some enlightenment of “pay attention to the effective connection of the curriculum system; strengthen the development of education and training courses; pay attention to the evaluation of course teaching quality;” for the construction of vocational education curriculum system in China.
