Abstract: Female genital mutilation has multiple adverse impacts on victims’ physical and psychosocial well-being. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and potential factors associated with female genital mutilation in Benin. A logistic regression was performed on the 2011 Benin Demographic and Health Survey dataset, using Stata 12. The dependent variable was based on participants’ declaration about the “Cut respondent’ question and was dichotomous (Yes/No). Independent variables were sociodemographic characteristics. A total of 11,008 women were selected, with 7.14% (CI 95% = [5.91, 8.60]) reported to be victims of female genital mutilation. The majority of the women were between 25 and 34 years old (34.5%), uneducated (54.6%), and married (51.3%). Women aged 35 to 49 were more likely to be victims of FGM than women aged 15 to 18 (OR = 5.43; CI 95% [3.77-7.82]). The risk of FGM was higher in married women (OR = 7.76) than those who had never been in a union, with the same trend observed for Muslim women (OR = 33.39) compared to followers of voodoo/traditional religion. Female genital mutilation is still practiced in Benin, especially in the north. This study reveals that factors such as marital status, religion, area of residence, level of education, ethnicity, and département of residence are associated with this practice. Therefore, they should be taken into account for effective interventions to eliminate it at national level.

Abstract: To evaluate the quality of clinical records as a measure of quality of paediatric oral health care in a tertiary health institution, in Nigeria. A 12-month retrospective review of clinical records of all paediatric dental patients seen in the dental centre of a tertiary hospital in Nigeria was carried out. The clinical records were assessed using a structured standard checklist based on the modified CRABEL Scores. The information assessed in each of the case notes included the case note identification number, patient demographic information, the history of presenting complaint, dental and medical /drug histories. Other information elicited were clinical features, diagnosis, treatment plan, procedures done and professional rank of the person who made the entries. Scores obtained per item for each case note were inputted and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 20.0. Three hundred and thirty four clinical records were assessed, of which, 136 (44.3%), 106 (36.8%), 65 (21.2%) and 7 (2.3%) of entries were made by students, interns, resident doctors and consultants respectively. The median CRABEL score was 95%. Written consent was the least (0.3%) documented information. There were statistically significant differences between the professional rank and extra oral examination, treatment plan and procedures done (p<0.05). However, there was no significant difference between the professional rank and CRABEL scores (p=0.4). Using the adequacy of clinical note taking as an index of the quality of care, it may be concluded that the quality of care in our paediatric dental clinic is of high standard. The only shortcoming in our experience was almost the absence of documentation of written informed consent.

Abstract: Hospital or Health facility acquired infections referred to as Nosocomial Infections are health care-associated infections that remain an important Provider/patient safety issue and represent a significant adverse outcome of the health care system. The topic of infection prevention is very important in reducing health costs and the impact of infections among patients in rural health centres. The main objective of this study is to assess the Knowledge Attitude and Practices on prevention of Infection Prevention among health care providers in rural health centres in Chibombo District in Central Province of Zambia. A descriptive cross sectional study of the knowledge, attitude and practice of infection prevention among health care providers in 31rural health centres of Chibombo district was carried out. Sample size proportional was calculated, and inclusion was done by using simple random sampling in order to make the calculated overall sample size. Data was obtained through structured, self-administered questionnaire. Summated scores were used to grade respondents’ knowledge attitudes and practices of Infection Prevention among health care providers in rural health centres in Chibombo District. Data analysis was done using the Statistical package for Social Science (SPSS) version 21, presented using descriptive statistics of frequencies, percentages, pie chart. Inferential statistics of Chi-square was used to test for associations between various factors and the knowledge, attitude and practices of Infection Prevention among health care providers in rural health facilities of Chibombo. A total of 94 (62.7%) out of 150 respondents had high level of knowledge while, considerable proportion of 55 (36.7%) out of 150 respondents had poor knowledge. Almost one-third (26%) had poor Practice meanwhile all the respondents150 (100%) had a positive attitude toward infection prevention. There was statistical significant association between profession of health workers, and practice of health care providers towards Infection prevention (P<0.05). On other hand, there was no significant association between knowledge, practice of Infection Prevention among health care providers in rural health facilities of Chibombo, and age, sex, marital status, religion or duration of work for the respondents (P>0.05). Abstract: Background/Objective: Achyranthes aspera is an erect flowering medicinal herb use in folkloric medicine. This study aims to examine the effect of methanolic leaf extract of Achyranthes aspera on hematological parameters of Swiss albino mice. Materials and Methods: 70 adult mice of both sexes with mean weight of 22 ± 5g were used for this study. Achyranthes aspera leaves was pulverized to coarse powder from where methanolic extract was obtained. 0.2ml of 50mg/kg, 100mg/kg, and 200mg/kg respectively of leaf extract was administered to mice for four days. After administration, 1ml of blood was collected from mice through cardiac puncture into EDTA bottle for full blood count estimation using Abacus-80 hematological analyzer. Results: The administration of 50mg/kg, 100mg/kg and 200mg/kg doses of the extract resulted in increased lymphocyte count from 29.4±7.35% to 70.4±0.25%, 70.5±0.219% and 81.3±0.282% respectively at P>0.05 while neutrophil value was reduced from 55.2±11.05 x 109/l to 14.0±0.216x 109/l, 11.2±0.109x109/l and 12.3±0.148 x109/l. The administration of 50mg/kg, 100mg/kg and 200mg/kg doses of the extract increases platelet count from 99.0±0.52x103/ul to 529±0.01x 103/ul, 332±0.523x103/ul and 135±0.543x103/ul respectively. Conclusion: Ingestion of methanolic leaf extract of Achyranthes aspera resulted in a dose dependent changes in hematological parameter of albino mice including significant increase in lymphocyte and platelet counts. This plant’s leaf extract may therefore have the potentials of being effective in the treatment of diseases cause by thrombocytopenia and lymphocytopenia in mammals. It is believed that information provided in this study can enhance appropriate usage of Achyranthes aspera in folkloric medicine in Nigeria.

The selected literature titles are imported into the literature bibliographic information statistical analysis tool (SATI) to perform frequency statistics on the subject words, matrix is generated, and the results are imported into SPSS 22.0 for drawing cluster analysis and multidimensional scale analysis map. Based on the clustering analysis of high-frequency subject words and the results of multidimensional scaling analysis, the research focus on Beckwith Wiedemann syndrome nursing is: Beckwith Wiedemann syndrome nursing research has experienced a slow development period, and is now in a prosperous period, but the overall number of studies is low. The content coverage is comprehensive but not in-depth and should be improved. The research and exploration of Beckwith Wiedemann syndrome care can be further combined with the current research hotspots to improve the quantity and quality of Beckwith Wiedemann syndrome nursing research.
