Abstract: Motel is considered to be the most important branch of tourism and the most significant type of accommodation because of its ability to provide revenue and satisfy the needs of the guests. Motels are usually located in road side areas, and they cater for tourists and vacationers. Motels provide all motel services plus recreational and other activities. The provision and improvement of good road network, mass transit system and signposting obviously aid accessibility and accommodation of visitors and tourist can effectively enhance the advantage of increased level of visitors by channeling tourist to those areas that can best accommodate them. Innovation raises attention, helps positioning, brand recognition and differentiation. The building should be designed to be a viable and flexible one; it should reflect an atmosphere that depicts beauty, comfort, accommodation and relaxation. This research also examines the problems militating against the development of tourism and other factors such as problem of accommodation and publicity. The designs are aimed at harnessing nature and consequently improve productivity and creativity can be achieved through some characteristic features of such building. The facilities, front office procedures, housekeeping service, and room size are important factors contributing to the guest’s perceptions of the motel standards as opposed to the rating of the motel.

Abstract: Dormitories are one of the important facilities in educational institutions that help carry out educational activities themselves. However, socialization activities in the dormitory often cause conflicts and disputes between residents due to cultural differences, the habits of each individual who lives in one room so that it influences the behavior of everyone who lives there. In addition, the design aspects of the dormitory are also important to study regarding the success factors of the design so that it can provide comfort for residents. This research will look at the extent to which research related to dormitory buildings influences the behavior of its residents and will map out the factors that determine the success of the hostel design. The research used the systematic literature review method by searching journals from the last 15 years using the PoP application, then reviewed with the keywords dormitory, design, and behavior and using the Scopus indexer. So that the results of the study show that the design aspects of the dormitory play an important role in the comfort and behavior aspects of the occupants. The social needs of the hostel are needed to create a design that can encourage positive interactions and provide a good community life within the hostel. The research results can be used as a reference for future dormitory designs.

Abstract: This research focuses on the development of the new ideas and ideologies in housing problematic, urban planning in Europe and Türkiye since the last century. These ideas and ideologies previously were known as utopia or idealistic, are emerged in response to housing problem in the industrialization period. The ideologies played transformative role and profound impact in shaping of European society via architectural and urban development. These new ideas were first emerged in Europe, and later they transferred to worldwide and finally Türkiye through European architects and urbanists. Recently, due to changing dynamics in the cities in housing and urban planning, the old doctrines and discourses are come-back. Since the 1990s, the urban and housing plannings in the world has evolved in various paths like sustainability, green-design more recently, in the 2020s COVID-19 pandemic become a new planning milestone. After the recent pandemic the architects and urban planners, reconsidered the old ideologies, like E. Howard and B. W. Richardson. While this research focuses on the new world agenda urban and housing planning theories, it also presents how to use past ideologies still play key role in today's housing problem and urban planning. Therefore, in this research old ideologies and their evaluation and conceptual reflections on housing problematic today and in future in the Europe and Türkiye are examined. On conclusion, recently, we witnessed the come-back of the old ideologies and it is revealed that the origins of many housing models and typologies known today derived from originally old ideologies of Europe. These old ideas led to developing new housing models such as; CIAM style modern blocks, and apartments, and later E. Howards’s garden-city ideas become significant in Europe and worldwide. After the COVID-19, in search of a greener, airier lifestyle outside the cities E. Howard’s Garden city Welwyn, in England has been renewed. In Istanbul, derivatives of E. Howard’s Garden city model, first envisioned by H. Prost in the mid of the 20th century and recently B. W. Richardson’s Hygeia, as an old healthy-city housing concept come-back. The research revealed that like old planning ideologies and discourse housing models and typologies of the past are continue being inspiration for development of new and innovative housing models.

Abstract: It is widely accepted that the presence of the minaret as an element of the mosque is associated with two initial purposes: vocal and visual. The vocal hosts the call to prayer, and the visual symbolizes the presence of Islam. However, the increasing existence of this tower and the diversification of its forms and sizes are due to its various and different functions and uses. This study goes beyond the two initial purposes of the minaret by considering this mosque tower as a functional entity designed and built around the purpose of function variety, which is determined by practical considerations. Studies related to the uses of the minaret other than the call to prayer and symbolic expression hardly exist and if they do, they deal with the most documented ones and do them separately. This study uses historical and descriptive studies relevant to the minaret to present the many functions of this tower during the three periods of the history of the Islamic world: early, medieval, and late. Derived from various literary interpretations, seventeen uses or functions of the minaret are identified, synthesized, evaluated, and presented. The aim is to emphasize: the status of the minaret as a significant functional entity of the mosque, the functional diversity of the minaret, the constancy of the minaret form as a tower, and the minaret as a necessary symbol of Islam and a tower for the call to prayer. This study considers the multiple uses of the minaret in the form of a constant represented in the symbolic value and the call to prayer, and in the form of a variable that includes many of the functions identified and evaluated during this research.

Abstract: Hibualamo Neo-Traditional Architecture is a traditional building in the North Halmahera area built by the Tobelo tribe. The long history of the presence of the Hibualamo House is something important and symbolic for the people of Tobelo in particular and North Halmahera in general. However, it has since been restored in 2007 by the North Halmahera regional government. There has been a change or acculturation in architecture, both in terms of the use of materials, the shape of the building facade, and adjustments to the function of the building. This new application of hibualamo architecture has given rise to controversy over whether the existing hibualamo buildings still apply the cultural values of the Tobelo tribe, like the original hibualamo buildings. This research aims to examine the application of Neo-Traditional Architecture to the Hibualamo traditional house from the architectural aspect, namely form, function and meaning related to Tobelo tribal culture. A qualitative descriptive research method will be carried out by reviewing the literature on Neo-Traditional Architecture, Culture and Hibualamo Traditional Houses. Then the results of in-depth analysis and study will show the extent of the relationship between form, function and meaning that represents the culture of the Tobelo tribe. The research results show that the Hibualamo Neo-traditional Architecture is an architectural novelty, but its existence is still proven to be in accordance with the principles or cultural values of the Tobelo people of North Halmahera.

Abstract: The issue of energy efficiency in recent years has become an interesting topic. This is in accordance with assessments from several green building certification agencies in Indonesia and green building certification agencies from Malaysia (GreenRE, Green Building Index), as well as green building certification agencies from Singapore (BCA Green Mark) which gives each a maximum rating for energy efficiency points. The sector that contributes the largest energy consumption in the world based on data from the United Nations Environment Sectors is the building sector, around 35% in 2020, and in 2021 it will increase to 36%. In recent years high-performance "building envelopes” that integrate lighting, shading, and natural ventilation have the possibility to help reduce the energy used in building operations. Another factor caused by the building envelope system is to create visual effects and building aesthetics. This technology in some studies is called "facade breathing". The purpose of this research is to find a model that can flow wind according to standards and a model that can produce natural lighting according to standards. This research was conducted by simulation method. Simulation with Autodesk CFD to measure wind speed flowing into buildings. Simulation with Dialux Evo to measure natural lighting entering the building. The simulation results show that natural lighting, from the three degrees of opening (30°, 60°, and 90°) produces standard illumination above 50% in the room. The simulation results of wind speed also show similar results. The “folding umbrella" breathing façade consistently circulates air into the room between 40% -57% at all degrees of opening.
