Gender Gaps in Administrative Positions: The Case of Selected Educational Institutions in Lusaka District, Zambia

Abstract: The vision of the National Gender Policy (NGP) was to achieve gender equity at all levels of decision making in the Zambian political economy. Institutions of higher learning occupy a significant role in the socio-economic development of Zambia and are critically affected by gender policy issues. The study was carried out to investigate the Gender gaps among Women and Men in Administrative positions: The case of Educational Institutions in Lusaka District, Zambia. The objectives that guided the study were: to assess the extent of gender gaps in administrative positions of selected educational institutions; identify the causes of gender gaps in managerial positions of established educational institutions, and ascertain the effect of gender gaps in the operations of selected academic institutions. This research employed both quantitative and qualitative survey research approaches, which followed a descriptive case study design. The sample consisted of seventy-eight (78) respondents. This comprised of forty-eight (48) administrative officers from six (6) educational institutions, that is eight (8), administrative officers, from each institution. At the same time, thirty (30) respondents were sampled from non-administrative officers, five (5) non-administrative officers were sampled from individual educational institutions. Purposive sampling and random sampling technique were used to sample the participants. A questionnaire and semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from the field. The study revealed the extent to which there are gender gaps in administrative positions of educational institutions is very significant. That is because the number of male administrative thirty-one (31) officers is almost double the numbers of female administrative seventeen (17) officers. The causes of gender gaps in administrative positions included; lack of clear policy on recruitment and promotion of administrative officers, lack of affirmative action during recruitment and promotion process, stereotyping of administrative positions, lack of confidence, limited role models, low level of education and administrative experience amongst females, and being overwhelmed with household responsibilities.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to obtain news text teaching materials based on journalism and discourse studies for junior high school students. The object of this research is the selected critical discourse news texts. The method used is the method of research and development. The study begins with a descriptive analysis of the news text based on a journalistic study, namely the structure, shape, and feasibility elements. Meanwhile, the discourse study includes critical discourse analysis. From this study, news text teaching materials for junior high schools were developed through validation and due diligence. The results of this research are news text structures based on journalism and discourse which are used as the basis for developing news text teaching materials for learning. News text teaching materials can be developed into enrichment teaching materials and based on the validation test of Indonesian language teachers and experts, the teaching materials can be categorized as valid and suitable for use in learning. The results of this study are: the structure of the news text under study is based on journalism. Of the ten news texts, only two are news texts in the form of features with the headline The Success Story of Hijup Diajeng Lestari Founder and the Early Story of Mendikbud Nadiem Makarim in Founding GoJek. The other eight texts are in the form of a quote story. Meanwhile, news texts based on the results of research on discourse do not find any elements of marginalization, so that the mass media can be said to be balanced and independent from the press court. Furthermore, the study of teaching materials for student knowledge enrichment books that were made and tested by the validation of teaching material experts and practitioners based on their judgments was categorized as valid and could be used as an enrichment book for lessons.

Abstract: This research is a development research which aims to produce printed teaching materials in the form of descriptive textbooks oriented to higher order thinking skills (HOTS). This research is used as a student training material and a source of teacher teaching materials related to solving problems that require students to think critically and creatively. The product of this textbook development is divided into four parts, namely the book cover, which contains front and back covers, the first two parts of the book, namely, contain a copyright page, an introduction, a table of contents, general instructions, a columnhots, scientific columns, concept maps, and descriptive text learning objectives. Furthermore, the three content sections, which contain the contents of the book, are divided into four basic competencies of descriptive text for class VII SMP/MTs (seven graders of secondary schools), and the fourth is the final part of the book, which contains a bibliography, glossary, and author's curriculum vitae. This study uses the Research and Development method (R&D with the ADDIE Model. Data were collected using interviews by five Indonesian language teacher practitioners, then documentary studies to obtain the structure of language rules, then filling out a questionnaire to obtain the results of validation of material and media experts by two respondents and an implementation questionnaire. by three Indonesian language teacher practitioners The results of the development of HOTS-oriented descriptive text books for grade VII which have been validated by material experts with a score of 84% (quite valid) and media experts with a score of 82% (quite valid). implemented to test its feasibility on three Indonesian teacher respondents with indicators including: 1) content, 2) language, 3) presentation of the material, 4) graphics, and 5) HOTS components got 89% gain. Thus the HOTS-oriented descriptive text textbook for class VII SMP/MTs is declared very valid and suitable for use by VII grade SMP/MTs students.

Abstract: The study investigated the influence of Leadership Behaviour on Organisational Effectiveness in Secondary Schools in some selected schools in Ekiti State, a south-western state in Nigeria. The research design used was the descriptive research of the survey type. Subjects used for the study were 105 teachers including principals. The data were collected using a Leadership Behaviour and Organizational Effectiveness Questionnaire and Teacher’s Perception of Principal’s Leadership Behaviour Questionnaire. Five hypotheses were proposed and tested using chi-square statistical analysis. The results were held significant at 0.05 levels. The finding showed that there was a significant relationship between leadership behaviour and organizational effectiveness. The outcome of the research further revealed a significant difference between the qualification of leaders and their behaviour towards organizational effectiveness with no significant difference between the perception of leadership behaviour by teachers and principals.It was concluded from the results of this study that the sex of a leader goes a long way in determining the type of leadership behaviour he/she exhibits and that the positive perception of teachers about the principal will add more to the teachers’ efficiency in that they will be psychologically balanced and disposed to do any work assigned to them by the school authority. Based on the results of the study it was recommended that the School Principal should recognize the fact that their interpersonal behaviour is very important in their daily interaction with teachers towards enhancing School effectiveness. They must be accommodating and sensitive to the needs and problems of their teachers.

Abstract: The refined teaching management in colleges and universities means that in the teaching management process, it pays attention to the meticulous teaching management process, the systematization of the implementation procedures, the clarification of management responsibilities, and the pursuit of scientific, rigorous and efficient teaching management concepts and management models in the teaching management process. The promotion of refined teaching management in Chinese universities is a realistic need to implement the fundamental task of "Foster Character and Civic Virtue" in universities in the new era. It is an important carrier for the realization of "Three-dimensional Education" and a powerful guarantee for improving the quality of university teaching.
