Abstract: With the development of society, people pay more attention to mental health. Meanwhile, depression is becoming a major psychological problem faced by Chinese youth. We examined the mediational roles of self-esteem in accounting for the relation between perceived chronic social adversity and depression and the relation between perceived social support and depression among Chinese college students. A total of 805 Chinese college students (65.6% females, mean age = 20.17 years) completed a multi-measure questionnaire. A cross-sectional correlational research design was used in this study. Obtained data were analyzed using correlational and mediation analysis by Hayes (PROCESS macro). Results of the correlational analysis indicate that perceived chronic social adversity was significantly positively related to depression, but perceived social support was found significantly negatively correlated with depression among Chinese college students. PROCESS macro was used to test the mediating role of self-esteem based on proposed mediation model. The results of mediation analysis revealed that: (1) perceived chronic social adversity positively related to depression, whereas perceived social support negatively related to depression, (2) self-esteem partially mediated the relation between perceived chronic social adversity and depression, and (3) self-esteem entirely mediated the relation between perceived social support and depression among Chinese college students. The results suggest that college students’ depression can improve by positive cognition of social encounters via obtaining a high level of self-esteem. In addition, limitations and practical applications of the findings were discussed.

Abstract: As psychology is the scientific study of mind and behavior then it follows that psychology should be able to understand, manipulate, predict and treat human thought and behavior. The purpose of this paper is to explain how first of these three could be used to revive Islam among Muslims in Muslim majority countries. The discussion has been analytical in nature while applying psychological principles and theories from a wide range of psychological studies to understand and design Islamic revival. The paper focuses on five core psychological and psychosocial areas: early childhood development, adulthood, social relationship, marriage and unity. These are crucial foundations for any people, society and it's worldview and even more so for Muslims and Islamic revival. The readers must not in anyway, get the idea that this paper proposes Islam vs West conflict, rather the paper establishes the uniqueness and independence of the Islamic society through the Islamic religion while revealing Islam as a broader system. The paper truly establishes human diversity on independent values and laws through Islam as an example. The paper reveals that psychology is a workable science and not just theory and as such Muslim psychologists should continue to study and use psychology to evolve and mature the Islamic self-concept, Islamic conscience and Islamic society.

Abstract: Background: Impostor syndrome or impostor phenomenon relates to the difficulty in internalizing success due to feelings of being phony or inauthentic, despite having evidence of the contrary. It is an insidious and pervasive condition that is exacerbated in professional settings, and negatively impacts the mental health and psychological functioning of individuals and across populations. Multiple comorbidities include anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, burnout, somatic symptoms and social dysfunction, as well as decreased job satisfaction and performance. Gap: To date, no clear treatment guidelines or specific recommendations exist to treat impostor syndrome, and effective interventions are urgently needed. Objective: To address this treatment deficiency by integrating the Immunity to Change learning process and Schema Therapy into a unified framework. Methodology: This qualitative paper draws on the relevant extant literature, takes a scientist-practitioner stance, and uses a mini-case study that incorporates a client-therapist vignette to illustrate the model’s protocol and operationalization. Results: A transdiagnostic, pragmatic model and protocol for short-term individual psychotherapy, to generate rapid change for clients to achieve their goals. Conclusion: This model will benefit psychologists practicing in organizational settings, and those working in career development or with student populations, busy professionals, and high-performing executives, who often experience impostor syndrome.

Abstract: A study was under taken to establish the effectiveness of individual counseling services on substance abuse rehabilitees behaviour change at Asumbi Treatment Centre, Homa-bay Country Kenya. Substance abuse has increased greatly worldwide and has caused a significant proportion of the population eventually to get addicted posing a threat to their health and safety. The problem underlying this study is that, although there has been different counseling approaches in different rehabilitation centres meant for behaviour modification among substance abusers, very little change is known about their effectiveness. It has been noted that most substance abusers revert back to their previous behaviors after rehabilitation program due to insufficient psychological care during and after rehabilitation program causing relapse. To address this, the study therefore established the effectiveness of individual counseling services on substance abuse rehabilitees’ behavior change. The researcher adopted saturated sampling techniques and purposely selected 12 counselors and 48 clients for the study. Quantitative data was collected using questionnaires for both counselors and clients. Mean rate was analyzed and t-test done and tabulated as frequencies, percentages and further interpreted and reported. The study established that there was no significant different (t (9) =0.131, p > 0.05) between the individual counseling core conditions mean rating hence it shows an effectiveness of individual counseling services was statistically significant on substance abuse rehabilitees behaviour change. To verify the effectiveness of the individual counseling the t-test was used to find an indication of the difference in the effectiveness of individual counseling services on substance abuse rehabilitees behaviour change. It therefore, concluded that counselors and clients concurred that individual counseling to large extent influence positive behaviour change among the substance abuse rehabilitees as signified by the overall mean rating of 3.40 as per the study using core conditions such as congruence, empathetic understanding and unconditional positive regards.

Abstract: In the current study, the influence of both environmental and cultural factors on developmental differences among children was revealed in the processes of phonological awareness of the Arabic language, in an attempt to shed light on the importance of the cultural context in general. And the role of the family, in particular, in acquiring and developing the child’s phonological structure, by studying the role of the home literacy environment and the level of parents’ education in making developmental differences for the phonological awareness processes in Egyptian children in early childhood. One hundred Egyptian pre-school children (50 girls and 50 boys aged (3.5-4.5-5.5 years old), (mean age = 4.72) were assessed on the level of phonemic awareness, and the parents also filled out a questionnaire about their educational level And the frequency of engaging in various activities related to literacy at home with their children In addition to controlling both the general and non-verbal intelligence variables. The results indicated that the factors related to the home literacy environment (the linguistic activities of the mother with the child Which include: maternal talkativeness such as story-telling, singing and imagining stories with dolls)–and the reading rate of the parents in partnership with the child) and letter knowledge in addition to the level of mother education as a socio-cultural variable influencing developmental differences in phonological awareness processes for older age groups during early childhood, While the results did not indicate an effect of the factor of teaching the alphabet through the parents and the level of education of the father in the emergence of developmental differences between the age groups of phonological awareness processes.
