Abstract: Attempts have been made to increase maize productivity and yield in Nigeria by doubling the recommended population density under the same agronomic practices but with additional 50% increase in fertilizer application. However, the prevailing wage rates paid to farm labour, the market price of other inputs especially additional fertilizer and output will determine the benefit. The aim of this study was to assess the economic benefits of using double plant population density. Four maize varieties LNTP-W, BR9943-DMRSR, LNTP-Y and BR9928-DMRSR were tested under recommended population density (ND) of 53,333 plants/ha and double plant density (DD) of 106,666 plants/ha at Ilora and Ile-Ife out-stations of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Nigeria in 2017 and 2018 cropping seasons. Plant spacing of 75cm inter-row and 25cm intra-row was used for both ND and DD. The experiment was laid out on 3m by 3m plots in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Data on cost (input and labour) and yield were collected. The analytical techniques used was partial budgeting analysis which include Gross benefit (GB), Net Benefit (NB) and Benefit-Cost Ratio (BCR). Yield performance result showed that at both locations, LNTP-W performed best under ND and DD followed by BR9943DMRSR. The result of partial budgeting showed that NB of LNTP-W was the highest under ND (N206,146) and DD (N152,724), followed by BR9943DMRSR (N169,894) under ND and (N121,242) under DD respectively. However, the BC ratio result showed that BR9943DMRSR maize variety was the most economic viable variety. Therefore, since BR9943DMRSR maize variety satisfied both the necessary and sufficient conditions for economic benefit feasibility for adoption by farmers under both normal and double plant population densities, it is recommended that this maize variety should be adopted by farmers for increased productivity. Also, mass production of this variety is encouraged by the research institute with the support of the government and made available through the extension agents for dissemination and adoption by farmers.

Abstract: Forest products industry is a green industry and a sunrise industry. As the largest green economy, it plays an important role in effectively alleviating the contradiction between supply and demand of wood, realizing the sustainable utilization of forest resources and realizing the development goal of circular economy. It has played a positive role in improving the ecological environment, promoting industrial agglomeration, promoting the development of related industries, and maintaining wood safety. Through scientific and technological innovation driven and industrial agglomeration, a forest products industrial cluster area integrating production and manufacturing, scientific and technological research and development, exhibition and sales will be built in Cangwu county. To strengthen and expand forest industry in Guangxi province, the level of resource utilization has been significantly enhanced, the product quality has been greatly improved, and the industrial chain has been further extended. Efforts should be made to develop the downstream furniture, wooden door, and wood flooring manufacturing industry, and also to improve the industrial scale, standardization and intensification, to strengthen the industrial innovation system, to establish the industrial chain led by leading enterprises, to create a tree shaped industrial structure, as well as to establish coordinated development. We should exhibit the modern industrial system, build the forest industry into the pillar industry of Cangwu County, turn the green water and green mountains into gold and silver mountains, and build the concentration area into the national forestry industry demonstration park in China.

Abstract: The analysis of the impact of flood on food crop production and the adaptive measures amongfarmers was carried out in northern guinea savanna of agroecological zone of Kaduna State. In order to achieve the set objectives, purposive sampling technique was employed in collecting data from 380 food crop farmers withstructured questionnaire. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics and Chi square. Results show that majority (73.1%) of respondents were male, while 67% were between the age of 21-40 years. The level of education of the respondents indicates that about (58%) had at least primary school education. Majority of the respondents (93%) were prone to flood, while 96% normally experience flood in at least every five years. The study also shows that, above 50% of respondents were affected by loss of soil nutrients; erosion, damage to road and other infrastructures, food insecurity, and poverty, while96% of the respondent agreed that planting of vegetation, proper drainage, prevention of soil erosion and building dams, water ways and canals were adopted by the farmers as adaptation and control measures. It was recommended that, the extension agents should disseminate information and also made available improved varieties of plant and animal species which the farmer could use in combating flood effects.

Abstract: As a relatively independent type of furniture, Chinese traditional furniture has a long history. It has the characteristics of simple modeling, rigorous structure and fine workmanship, which is an excellent combination model of science and art. Entering the modern society, the development of traditional furniture has opened a new stage, which also encountered some problems. This paper summarized the problems existing in the process of traditional furniture technology inheritance, analyzes the problems, and puts forward the corresponding countermeasures. In order to adapt to the development of the times and meet the needs of consumers to cope with the fierce competition, innovation has become an inevitable choice for many enterprises. Therefore, in the field of traditional furniture industry, in addition to learning and inheriting skills through traditional methods, it is necessary to integrate innovation, modern market awareness, rethink business strategies, and try to introduce some high-tech elements into the rapid changes of the external environment. With the help of modernization, technology and information technology, enterprises can find new development impetus to enhance competitiveness, and combine modern furniture technology with traditional furniture technology. Modern lifestyles should be organically combined to get better inheritance. This study can also provide valuable information for the research on education and training of undergraduate and graduate students within forestry engineering related disciplines.
