Abstract: Boro-phosphate oxide glass system doped with iron ions have been prepared by the conventional melting quenching technique, all mixtures are in an agreement with the following chemical formula (25-x) mol% Na2O. x mol% NaCl.15 mol% FeO. 30 mol% B2O3. 30 mole% P2O5, where x = 0.0, 05, 10, 15, 20 and 25. Sample of x= 0, only, has been exposed to different doses of gamma rays (0.0, 05, 10 and 20 kGy). Mossbauer Effect ME spectroscopy have been carried out at RT for all irradiated {x =0.0} and for non-irradiated {x> 0.0} samples. ME parameters showed all samples in good glassy state. Also ME parameters showed the iron ions in two different coordination states, where all Fe2+ ions and some of Fe3+ ions shared the octahedral coordination states, while the tetrahedral coordination states occupied only by Fe3+ ions. It was observed that both the gamma irradiation process and the process of replacement Na2O by NaCl caused the Fe2+ ions to oxidize to Fe3+ ions.

Abstract: Gamma irradiation has been proved to inhibit microbial growth, delay ripening and extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. The present investigation was undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of gamma radiation on extending the shelf life of tomatoes. Tomatoes were treated with gamma radiation doses of 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 kGy. Shelf life of unirradiated and irradiated tomatoes was evaluated under ambient (temp. 25±2°C) and refrigerated (temp. 4±1°C) storage conditions to determine the optimum dose for control of rotting. Gamma irradiation at 0.75 to 1.0 kGy was effective in reducing rotting and enhancing the shelf life of tomatoes. Gamma irradiation treatment resulted in significant decrease in microbial load and decay of tomatoes both under ambient and refrigerated conditions. Radiation doses of 0.75 to 1.0 kGy did not affect the quality parameters of tomatoes like pectin, titratable acidity, pH, anthocyanin content and sensory attributes. The study indicates that irradiation at 0.75-1.0 kGy can improve the shelf life of tomatoes without adverse effects on quality and sensory attributes.

Abstract: The graphene was synthesized by two routes the 1st one application of conventional sonication in case of Tri-chloro-acetic 75% H2SO3 for 60hrs while 2nd is combined sonication (60 hrs) plus laser irradiations for 30hrs. The yields of two routes are collected and compared structurally to check and investigate the effect of laser on structure quality and amount of yield obtained. Results indicated that combined route gave yield higher than conventional route by ratio ~ 39%. AFM-investigations were performed to characterize nano-structural features of produced graphene. Furthermore raman spectra were measured to confirm graphene formation.

Abstract: Exposure to high amounts of ionizing radiation results in damage to the hematopoietic system characterized by the destruction of hematopoietic cells in bone marrow, thus reducing the production of blood cells. Infections and bleeding that result can be fatal. Aged garlic extract (AGE) has been demonstrated to possess several physiological activities in experimental animals thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect of AGE on the hematopoietic syndrome post whole-body exposure to ionizing radiations. Eight groups, five healthy male rats each were used (20 irradiated and 20 Sham Irradiated), among which some were receiving via gavages distilled water, the others AGE at different doses (25 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg) and the rest vitamin E + Alpha Lipoïc Acid. Blood samples were collected the 8th day post irradiation to investigate blood picture. Exposure of rats to gamma radiation caused a significant disturbance in the level of white blood cells count (WBCS), Lymphocytes (LY), mid-size population of monocytes, basophils, eosinophils, blasts, and other immature cells (MID),Granulocytes (GR), red blood cells count (RBCs), hemoglobin content (Hb), Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV), hematocrit value (HTC), Mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) and platelets count (PLT). In rats exposed to radiation then treated with AGE, the results showed an improvement in all previous parameters. The results of the present investigation showed that AGE intake confers radiation protection to rat’s blood cells parameters after whole-body exposure to ionizing radiation.
