Abstract: The amount of sports news coverage is generally less for women compared to men. This serves to promote sports as a predominantly male enterprise, hindering female athletics participation and marketing. In addition, it dissuades young women from participating in sports activities, which can lead to many negative mental and physical health outcomes. This study compared athletic news coverage of male and female athletes in a local suburban newspaper and assessed factors that may influence coverage. All articles published in the weekly Lexington Minuteman in 2017 were manually reviewed extracting the sex of the athletes, sport-related factors (e.g., sport played), and publication-related factors (e.g., front-page status). A one-proportion z-test was performed to compare the proportion of articles covering male and female athletes; chi-square and t-test were used to compare factors associated with articles that covered males and females. The study found that 70% of sports-related articles covered male athletes, significantly more than females (p<0.0001). Other factors did not differ significantly by sex, including criteria for accepting articles. Although publication-related factors were similar for articles covering males and females, underrepresentation of female athletes in local newspaper coverage suggests decreased stakeholders’ interest in submitting articles concerning female athletes. This may, in turn, impact female participation and interest in athletics. Improving sports consciousness needs to be addressed more widely by society to encourage female athletic participation in fitness and sports.

Abstract: The strict implementation of Covid – 19 Health Protocol limits the human movements including physical activities. The educational system also shifts from traditional to flexible learning modality. This quantitative study aimed to determine the degree of influence of physical activity and student motivation in student engagement among college students. The regression analysis technique was utilized to determine the degree of the relationship between the two independent variables and a dependent variable. The researcher applied the cluster sampling technique in selecting the respondents. After the thorough investigation, the null hypothesis (p<0.05) were rejected. This study delineated that physical activity and student motivation have positively influenced student engagement. Among the three indicators in physical activity, physical education got the highest mean of 4.28 (very high), followed by a general attitude, which posted a mean of 4.23 (very high), and scientific basis, which attained a mean of 4.13 (high). Moreover, among the four indicators in student motivation, intrinsic value got the highest mean of 4.20 (very high), followed by self-regulation with a mean of 4.10 (high), cognitive strategy with a mean of 4.07 (high), and lastly, self-efficacy which got the lowest mean score of 3.68 (high). The study accentuated that physical activity and student motivation are critical to promoting student academic engagement among college students. The results will contribute to the improvement of student engagement which is deemed essential in academic success.

Abstract: The aim of the research is to determine the relationship between the achieved results in motor skills (as a predictor system) and the achieved result in students in leading the ball in slalom (criterion variable). The research was conducted on a sample of 45 students from the Primary School "Desanka Maksimivic" Laktasi, aged 11 and 12. Testing was realized in the duration of 8 lessons at the beginning of the school year. Predictor variables were presented through a set of 7 motor tests: throwing a medical ball of 3kg (bacmed), running from a high start at 30m (trc30m), endurance in the arme (enda), sit-ups (situp), long jump from standing (jump), 20 yards (20y) and flamingo test (flam). The sample of the criterion variable consisted of the test of leading the ball in slalom (vslalom). In order to formulate valid conclusions of the research, the following parameters were calculated: basic descriptive parameters, correlation and regression analysis. Based on the analysis and processing of the results, it was determined that the applied predictor system has a statistically significant correlation with the criterion variable. The statistically significant correlation is at the level of 0.05. Individual statistically significant influence was achieved by the variable: throwing a medical ball (p<0.05), while in other tests there was no statistically significant influence. It can be concluded that continuos improvement and knowledge of basic motor skills and traits in students on which success in teaching depends, is important for the proper direction and selection of potential talents, as well as for programming and implementation of the teaching process.
