Abstract: This study was necessitated by the different dispositions people Nigerians have towards taking COVID-19 jab. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, different sorts of news, both real, fake and even myth, have spread over the social media and in particular, WhatsApp social sharing network, leading to powerful controversies about the disease existence, prevalence, and vaccination. Many myths about COVID-19 vaccination have sprung up instilling fear and influencing opinions about taking the recommended COVID-19 jab. The study sought to use online descriptive survey employing Google form questionnaire instrument to find out whether the controversies surrounding COVID-19 and its jab had influence on WhatsApp users’ dispositions to take the jab. The study population comprised all resident literate adults in Anambra State, Nigeria who had access to WhatsApp social network. Major finding was that 85 percent of the participants were negatively disposed to take the jab as a result of the controversies surrounding it. The most prominent controversies observed were that the jab was developed in a hurry and therefore, a weapon of human destruction by Nigerian government to depopulate the masses. The researchers recommended that further vaccination should cease and massive media education/enlightenment campaign on the jab intensified to get favourable disposition towards the jab.

Abstract: There is a special negative adverb “xə̃44” in Lingling dialect. Although there are some similarities between the “xə̃44” and bu in grammatical function and syntactic distribution, the use of bu has less restrictions. Here the writer shows that the phenomenon of superposition of language elements from different origins appears not only in pronunciation, vocabulary system, but also in grammar system. The writer apply fieldwork, document comparison and other methods to analysis the phonetic and syntactic distribution and function of the “xə̃44”. Comparing with those dialects and ethnic minority languages around Lingling and considering the history and relative phenomena of languages, It is suggested that the negative adverb “xə̃44” evolves from the negative word [ņ] in Mian Language. This case shows that the negative adverb “xə̃44” in Lingling dialect is due to the result of “horizontal transmission”. It tells people, when explaining Chinese dialect phenomenon, it should not be restricted to the dialect itself, better answers may be found in the dialects and languages of those surrounding places.

Abstract: Interest and research in foreign language aptitude in the last three decades has portrayed a strong passion across various disciplines of applied linguistics, psycholinguistics and behavioral studies, especially concerning working memory. Moreover, extroversion and introversion as personality traits are among the most important personality dimensions that can affect language learning to a great extent. This study investigated the significance of differences between language aptitude and working memory of extrovert and introvert Iranian EFL learners. For this purpose, 47 ninth grade Iranian EFL learners were selected randomly from five different high schools in Sistan and Baluchestan province. The instruments used in this study were a LLAMA test for measuring language aptitude, an N-back test for measuring working memory, a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator for dividing participants into extrovert and introvert categories. In order to check the normality assumption of the obtained scores, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was run. To answer the research questions both the Mann-Whitney U test and independent-samples t-test were used. The results depicted that there was not any significant difference between working memory of extrovert and introvert Iranian EFL learners. Furthermore, no statistical significant difference in the language aptitude of extrovert and introvert Iranian EFL learners was identified. Current research addresses some theoretical and practical insights for teachers and researchers especially interested in psycholinguistics research.

Abstract: This article aims to highlight the multimodal features which underlie the architecture of meaning, emphasizing that the use of images and sounds in the construction of the text is a powerful tool to help the reader to make sense of any text genre. It is a well-known fact that communication is a complex process due to the fact that it comprises many steps. Since any text is just a proposal for the construction of meaning, the recipient’s role is very active, continually pairing their long-term memory with the coded message to cognitively reconstruct the meaning accordingly. Therefore, we claim that since the spoken language has a strong neural basis, which dates back to the first months of life, and the written language is intrinsically related to the visual system, the use of figures of speech (images) and figures of sound (syntactic stylistic devices) trigger both the right and left hemispheres of the brain and cause them to work in harmony, inducing comprehension and emotion. In this sense, the classic style, based on functional and cognitive principles of information structure, is highly recommended for a more generic readership of any kind of text genre, not only literary but also non-literary. In fact, some authors have recently argued that it seems to be easier for readers to make sense of texts when they evoke images and the feeling of sound, a phenomenon called phonesthetics, in which the aesthetic features of individual sounds and sound clusters of words and even structures reverberate in our minds, enhancing the understanding of an idea.
