Large-Scale Demonstration of Improved Sorghum Technologies in Selected Areas of Assosa Zone, Benishangul Gumuz Region, Western Ethiopia

Abstract: This study was conducted at Assosa and Bambasi district of Assosa zone. The district was selected purposively based on potential and accessibility for sorghum production: A total 603 (male 516, female 87) farmers were involving sorghum largescale demonstration production. 339 hectares of land were selected and identified for the activity; four quintal of improved sorghum assosa-1 variety distributed with 10 kg/ha seed rate and with 75 cm and 15 cm between row and plant all fertilizer application used based on recommendation 100 kg of NPS and 50 kg of UREA were used. All farmers contribute and prepare from 0.25 to 1 ha. of land for the activity. A total of 586 farmers, 31 development agents and 9 agricultural experts were participated on the training. About 1027 participants (700 M and 200 F, 40 M and 10 F experts, 75 M and 2 F higher official) were attend the field day. Mean grain yield of improved sorghum (Assosa-1) variety in Assosa and Bambasi districts was 27 qt/ha., and 30 qt/ha; respectively recorded. The total mean yield of improve sorghum Assosa-1 variety was 28.75 qt/ha. higher than the farmers practice 15 qt/ha. This difference is due to the utilization of best-fit of the variety in the areas and the application of the recommended agronomic practices and field management. From the total of 339 hectare of land 9430.5. quintal of yield was harvested.

Evaluation of Integration Application of Vermicompost with Inorganic Fertilizers and Their Combination Effect on Maize Yield in Mettu District

Abstract: The application of vermicompost and NPS fertilizer together increases crop productivity. However it is crucial to identify the combined application level. A field experiment was carried out in Mettu district in 2022/23 cropping season to determine the effect of integrated use of Vermicompost and inorganic fertilizers on the yield of maize and to determine the optimum rate of NPS fertilizer and Vermicompost on growth and yield of maize. Three levels of vermicompost (0, 1.5 and 3 t ha-1) and three levels of NPS fertilizer (0, 100 and 200 kg ha-1) were used for the study in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replicates. The interaction effect of NPS with vermicompost showed that significant differences on maize grain yield, days to tasseling and plant height. The highest maize grain yield (7861.10 kg ha-1) and (1597.20 kg ha-1) was obtained from the treatment combination of 3 t ha-1 vermicompost with 200 kg ha-1 NPS and 46 kg ha-1 N. Whereas, the lowest grain yield (1597.20 kg ha-1) was gained from control plot. However, this combination was statically at par with the treatment combination of 1.5 t ha-1 vermicompost with 200 kg ha-1 NPS and 46 t ha-1 N, which gave maize grain yield (7699.1 kg ha-1). Application of 200kg ha-1 of NPS alone with recommended N ha-1 fertilization is profitable and recommended for farmers. However, in terms of net benefit and soil health point of view for the study area 200kg ha-1 NPS with 1.5t ha-1 was recommended.

Abstract: On the occasion of Congress of the Communist Party, the local government delivers everyone, each community, make one work such as: an opposition of blooded water, an environmental hygiene, everyone canalizes, a baby garden, a flowers garden, a botanical garden, a garden of ornamental trees, local medical garden, the women produce something, women have animal husbandry. Here, the government wants to make one garden of medicinal trees and they deliver me who build the community garden in local area of the 2 downtown, ward 10 district 6, Ho Chi Minh City, I must find some trees that have a medical utility, plant to cure the diseases for the people and the students have a sample to learn. To make this work, I must go many places to prepare goodly. This is a necessary work. If we have a medical garden, that is to say we have an clear aim such as: a model garden for the 2 downtown of the ward 10, while the other ward does not have because the fund of soil is rare, and the people know the medical trees to cure the general diseases. Besides, we have the documents to teach, too. It is important that we keep the good race, protect the precious race. And everyone wants the climate which becomes goodly, it is agreeable, cool…Within a U figure garden of size 9mx6m, I collected about 73 medicinal species to plant. Most of these plants had use as a food plant to improve the health in local region. We collected and analyzed quality of water, soil, we have a choice to plant in garden. This is useful and necessary work to do. If everyone has soil, it will good to plant medicinal garden.
