A Case Study of Land Acquisition in Raniganj Coal Filed, West Bengal

Abstract

The current study focusses on the features of land acquisition for new mining-related displacement, industrial facilities, and relocation occurring in different regions of West Bengal, India, as well as the widely differing local socioeconomic challenges. The study identifies the causes of major human rights issues as well as barriers to government laws and humanitarian aid organisations. Additionally, this study uncovers a number of facets of West Bengal's bulk land acquisition cases and related problems. As a result, the purchase of land for coal mining and the development of new enterprises is becoming a violent enterprise with little consideration for the human cost of the devastation and suffering it causes. The work explores the intricate aspects of land acquisition. Acquisition policy of the state government and public response regarding land acquisition for the creation of new sector along with the expansion of current industry. The results concentrate on different aspects of bulk land acquisition instances in West Bengal and the challenges linked to it.
